What Lies in the Woods by Kate Alice Marshall

This book in 3 words: Mesmeric. Reckless. Distressed.

Three friends experienced tragedy at the age of 11; Naomi was stabbed 17 times while playing The Goddess Game with Cass and Liv. When the serial killer, who was caught and convicted, dies in prison, the friends come together and it's clear there's much more to the story.

This book had a HOLD ON ME. Naomi, our main character, is barbed and dark. I enjoyed reading both versions: her as a kid and an adult. She feels reliable and like she's doing her best. I feel like many thrillers come standard with an annoying/frustrating main character and I liked that this felt different. 🖤

Told in dual timelines, What Lies in the Woods is an atmospheric, fresh-faced thriller. It's full of secrets, twists, turns, and things that make you keep questioning what's next. I had a few different theories as the chapters went on (only one was true) and the details are easy to obsess over. Loved the witchy vibes and moments.

I won a copy from Flatiron books.
