Kaitlyn Hill- Author Spotlight
I read Kaitlyn’s Hill debut novel, Love From Scratch, and that’s all it took for her to be on my auto-buy author list. She has the type of characters and voice which make you laugh, swoon, and itch to get to the end.
I binge read an early copy of her second novel, Not Here to Stay Friends, during a snowy evening in my hot tub. I couldn’t peel myself from my kindle. The icicles in my hair proved it.
Kaitlyn attended Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. A small liberal arts school, in the heart of downtown, encouraged her to explore topics and areas that interested her. She graduated with a degree in Sociology and Anthropology.
Towards the end of her senior year at Transylvania, she finally found the time to read books on her list. Gone was heavy class reading and popular fiction easily took its place.
“It was really eye opening. There’s this whole world of really fun stories out there,” Kaitlyn shared. “Getting into genre fiction was really fun. Starting with mysteries and thrillers and ultimately spending time reading romance.”
While being an author didn’t click as a possible career path until later, Kaitlyn kept writing while she worked other jobs after college.
“I’m extremely lucky and privileged to be able to do what I’m doing now. I was never pushed into a path or challenged to find the-high-paying job. My parents encouraged me to find something I loved.”
What she loved was “telling her kissing stories”... a phrase she uses to explain her books on social media. It’s not as much of a quirk as it is a piece of her personality I’m grateful she shares with readers.
“I love telling stories, entertaining people, and making them laugh. I’ve always been obsessed with love stories.”
You can feel the energy, and love for the craft, through Kaitlyn’s storytelling.
Both of Kaitlyn’s books, in the romance genre, feature characters in the young adult/new adult category.
“I think it’s such an interesting space. There’s so much diversity and it’s super powerful. I feel like YA gets the space to explore fun things and themes before they take off for other age groups.” She shared.
Being a fan of the young adult/new adult category myself, I asked Kaitlyn what drew her to these types of characters.
“I feel like the young adult experience changes a lot with each generation, while the adult experience really doesn’t change as much.”
From one kissing story lover to another, I’m thrilled Kaitlyn writes in this space. Her new book, Not Here to Stay Friends is out on April 4.
If you follow and connect with Kaitlyn, you know she’s a big reality TV fan. I had to ask who her favorite Bachelorettes (girl power, baby) were: Rachel Lindsay, Kaitlyn Bristowe, and Hannah Brown. When she’s not watching roses being handed out, she loves over the top teen dramas.
Here’s my review for Love from Scratch and Not Here to Stay Friends.
